border patrol
Video Clip, 1:59
Site intervention, Pajerita Wilderness, US- Mexico border.
2014
Shot during a Signal Fire residency at the Arizona/Mexico border, the video will alternate close-ups of my attempt to place a cut up image of my hand over a harvester ant nest located at the border. The area is a highly contested and radically altered landscape, with conflicting natural and cultural tensions unfolding on a daily basis. The final video, viewed in real time, will alternate footage of me working to keep the hand in place with distant views of border patrol vehicles, DEA agents, cattle, and native species moving through the landscape at overlapping but differing temporo-spatial scales. The video, lasting 59 minutes, ends when the hand becomes completely dismantled despite my attempts to keep it intact.
